Getting A New Roof

Our home has long been in need of several updates, and we’re finally starting to tackle them. Our top priority has been fixing the roof. On rainy days, when we wanted to be cozy on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and watching movies, we were instead running to the back room to deal with leaks.

We got a recommendation from a previous handyman we had worked with for someone to take care of our roof. The man who came for the job assured us that all we needed was a simple patch job, which he took care of in one day with his crew.

A few weeks later, during the next rainfall, the leaks were just as bad as before. We tried reaching out to this handyman over the course of several days that turned into week, but we were ignored. We even called the original person who recommended him, who said he would try to get him to reach back out to us. After no avail, we finally sent an email threatening to sue if we didn’t get a response. The next day, he answered, and within a few days, this so-called “repairman” was back to fix the problem. Needless to say, nothing was fixed. After weeks of dealing with this issue and paying quite a large amount of money, we were stuck with a leaky roof that was just as bad as when the project started.

I am including the name and contact information of this fraudulent repairman so that anyone reading this will not end up with his poor services:

We were eventually able to find a reputable roofing company to take care of our leaks, which, after inspection, informed us that the previous job was done very sloppily (no surprise) and that we actually needed a whole new roof. Though a daunting thought at first, we agreed that it was for the best and would assure peace of mind in the long run.

It took about 2 weeks from start to finish to complete the job. For the first part of the process, the old roof was dismantled and all the debris was collected in a large truck to haul away. Since the truck had to be parked parked in our driveway right next to the house to make the process easier for the crew, the driveway was lined with plywood to prevent the weight of the truck from damaging the stone tiles.

Make sure your driveway can endure the weight of a dump truck and ask the crew to line it with plywood to prevent damage.

The noise from the dismantling of the old roof was quite prevalent and having a crew of several walking around on the roof was very hard to ignore.

If you are planning to relax or work at home during this process, you might want to consider leaving for the hours the crew is present.

Our old roof was made up of terracotta tiles, which we chose to go with for the new roof as well. Though sheet metal and shingles were less expensive, we did not want to lose the charm the terracotta tiles brought to our home.

We are ecstatic with our new roof. Even our neighbor stopped her car in front of our house to tell us how great our new roof looked.
